Cottage Country - December Events

There is always lots to do in Ontario's Cottage Country throughout the month of December and into the New Year. Here are some of the events that we'll be looking forward to in the weeks to come.

Don't let the end of 2017 pass by without taking the time to enjoy the outdoors and special activities the region has to offer.

 

Muskoka 

Santa's Back in Town

Santa’s back in town for a few days this December! Come join us for a fun filled Winter Edition of SantaFest – with some of Santa’s favourite winter activities like gingerbread cookie decorating, petting zoo, scavenger hunt, ornament making, marshmallow roasting, Christmas crafts and who could forget – a visit with Santa!

Opera House Concert

Bring in the New Year with the last bash of Canada’s 150th birthday. Award-winning Toronto singer, Shakura S’Aida will host this last concert of 2017 with musical director Lance Anderson and bassist extraordinaire Russ Boswell.

In addition to stellar entertainment, the Opera House is also offering a dinner and show package.

Haliburton

Sleigh Bells Ring

This adventure will have you dashing through the snow on a two horse open sleigh ride. Local character Irvin Holland and his horses will take you through forest and field and a maple sugar bush. You will also meet Jack and Ginnie and their son Oliver - the resident donkey family who always love treats and attention.

Howling Good New Year’s Eve!

Ring in the New Year with a Howl! Join one of Haliburton Forest’s staff on an exclusive evening tour of the Wolf Centre. Witness a wolf feeding while enjoying a light dinner. After dinner, head out by foot/snowshoes through the forest for a bonfire and a Wolf Howl.

Snowshoe Ecotour

3 hours, 4 kilometers, woodlands & wildlife! 

Experience areas of the Wye Marsh that are otherwise not open to the general visiting public! After a brief lesson on the art of snowshoeing, you will head out in search of the many mysteries that animal tracks & signs present while being followed by hungry chickadees that like to eat right out of your hand!  Your Naturalist guide will teach you how to identify trees in the winter and interpret the symphony of bird songs overhead. You will then have an opportunity to warm up by the fire at Freshet’s Creek while enjoying some roasted bannock & hot Cedar tea!
